Leonard Mizzi

Head of Unit Sustainable Agri-Food and Fisheries Systems, DG INTPA, European Commission

Dr. Leonard Mizzi has served as the Head of Unit at the European Commission, Directorate-General for International Partnerships - Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries since January 1, 2017. Prior to this, he held a 10-year tenure as the Head of Unit in DG Agriculture and Rural Development, overseeing agri-trade and development (2007-2014) and later leading inter-institutional relations and civil dialogue groups (2015-2016). Dr. Mizzi, a graduate in Public Administration from the University of Malta, holds degrees from CIHEAM-Montpellier and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading. With a diverse background in Maltese public administration and the private sector, he has authored numerous publications on agri-food issues in the Mediterranean. Dr. Mizzi's expertise lies in global food security governance, agriculture, and food and nutrition security, with a focus on the Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa.
